Addu Nature Park
The Story
Nestled in the northern tip of Hithadhoo Island, the Addu Nature Park is a sanctuary where the land meets the sea in a breathtaking display of biodiversity. Encompassing the vast Eedhigali Kilhi wetlands and the adjacent Koattey area, this protected site is the largest of its kind in the Maldives.
Steeped in history, Koattey - which translates to "fortress" - once served as a natural defense point for the people of Addu. Today, the park serves as a different kind of stronghold: an ecological fortress protecting rare mangroves, vibrant birdlife, and a unique freshwater ecosystem that is vital to the atoll's environmental health.
Visitors can traverse the park via meticulously maintained boardwalks that wind through lush mangroves, leading to observation decks that offer panoramic views of the wetlands. Whether you're here for the peaceful serenity of birdwatching or the thrill of canoeing through the still waters, the park offers an immersive experience into the wild heart of the Maldives.
